Clinical Accuracy

Why & What

A positive pregnency test is the first step in verifing a pregnancy. Most pregnancy tests you can buy are very reliable, but they are not 100% accurate. Only a healthcare professional can confirm that you are pregnant. LaVie provides laboratory-certified, urine pregnancy tests at no cost. No insurance is required, and results are given quickly in a private, confidential appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pregnancy Test Questions

Many home urine pregnancy tests that you can buy at a drug store are “early detection” pregnancy tests.  Which means you can potentionally test positive before you even miss a period.

However, the most accurate testing is done by a healthcare professional with a labratory-certified pregnancy test. Our pregnancy tests can detect the hCG hormone as early as 28 days after the first day of your last period.

A positive pregnancy test does not always mean a viable pregnancy. It is essential to have your pregnancy verified and confirmed by a healthcare professional.

Many home pregnancy tests can be highly accurate, but they are not foolproof. False positive tests can occur for a variety of reasons. It’s important to have your pregnancy verified by a healthcare professional.

A positive pregnancy test does not always mean a viable pregnancy. It is essential to have your pregnancy confirmed through an ultrasound.

LaVie offers urine and blood testing for pregnancy depending on your unique situation.

If you are sexually active, you can become pregnant even with contraception. A missed period is the most common indication of pregnancy, but there are several other symptoms you might experience.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Tender breasts
  • Frequent urination
  • Food cravings or aversions
  • Darkening of the nipples

Pregnancy tests are designed to detect the hormone “human chorionic gonadotropin”, commonly abbreviated as hCG, which is produced by the developing placenta in the very early stages of pregnancy. Conception, or the union of sperm and egg, takes place in the fallopian tube about 2 weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period. Once the egg is fertilized (known as a zygote), it travels down the fallopian tube into the uterus. After entering the uterus, the zygote will “implant” in the lining of the uterine wall, now forming the developing embryo and placenta. Implantation stimulates rapid production of hCG from the developing placenta, nearly exponentially on a daily basis. This whole process between ovulation and implantation may take approximately five to seven days.  The hCG hormone travels through the woman’s system and ultimately appears in urine and blood samples.
