Frequently Asked Questions

Adoption Questions

If you are curious about adoption, you will likely have a lot of questions about the process. We can help you understand your options, and connect you to other local resources. Call to schedule an appointment or talk to a registered nurse about your unique situation.

When working with a private adoption agency, you voluntarily choose an adoption plan. During that process you would work with the adoption agency to select an adoptive family that you feel is the best fit for your child.

Open adoption is exactly what is sounds like-open! An open adoption gives you the option to know your child and be a part of his or her life. You can have peace knowing your child is loved and cared for by a family that you choose, and can continue to have contact with them after the adoption is finalized.

Learning more about adoption is not a commitment to choose adoption. We will connect you with a local social worker who will explain every step of the adoption process. If you change your mind and decide to parent, the choice is yours and you will be supported.

Public adoption is usually considered a foster care adoption. The ultimate goal of foster care is reuniting the child with their biological family. However, there are some situations in which it’s unsafe for the child to return to their family. In those cases, the public adoption agency initiates the process of terminating the parents’ legal rights and matching the child with an adoptive family.

In private adoption (also known as independent adoption), the birth parents voluntarily make an adoption plan. They also work with an adoption agency to select the adoptive family they feel is the best fit for their child.

The role of an adoption agency is to guide and support the birth mother and adoptive family through the adoption process. Adoption agencies help birth parents find the perfect adoptive families for their children. They organize paperwork, facilitate communication when needed, and much more.
